LRecvTrap.exe Process Information

Posted on Monday 25 September 2006

I noticed an LRecvTrap.exe process running on my computer, and didn’t know what it was. So, like I usually do in this case, I searched for it on Google. But for this one there are absolutely no results on Google. So I looked into it myself, and I’m posting this so that there’ll be at least one result for anyone else who’s curious and searches for it in the future.

LRecvTrap turns out to be harmless, nothing to worry about. It’s installed with some Panasonic printer drivers, and is used to notify you when documents have finished printing. It’s located at C:\Program Files\Panasonic\Panasonic-DMS\LRecvTrap (at least on my machine).

Here’s a little bit from the strangely-worded readme file in that directory that tries to explain what it does, but doesn’t completely succeed in making things any clearer:

The Completion Notice is the application of indicating the Completion Notice of the device.

There are PC Print, PC Fax, Copy and Fax in the kind of the Completion Notice from the device (The kinds of the completion notice decrease by the device.).

To help you maintain records of the documents you sent or print, the Completion Notice is quipped to list the transaction result as the Log file. The latest 100 transactions are recorded on the log.

You may also set the condition to be appeared the Completion Notice window after completion of the job (All/Error only/None).

They also give a list of compatible models in the readme. I guess it’s safe to say that if you don’t use one of these Panasonic devices, you don’t need to keep LRecvTrap running:

DP-180/190, DP-1520/1820, DP-2310/3010, DP-2330/3030, DP-3510/4510/6010, DP-3520/4520/6020, DP-3530/4530/6030, DP-C262/C322, DX-600/800, UF-7000/7100/8000/8100, UF-9000

In short, if you came here wondering if this was some odd spyware process or anything like that, don’t worry about it.
