Technorati Tags in Wordpress Test

Posted on Saturday 11 February 2006

I’ve been thinking about putting Technorati-parsable tags in here for a while now, and just haven’t gotten around to it yet. So this is an experimental post to see if the tagging plugin I just installed will work the way I expect it to work.
UPDATE: Hmm, ok, Technorati is foiling my test. For some reason this post isn’t even showing up in their regular index, so if it’s not there, I shouldn’t expect the tags to work either, right? But I can see the Technorati bot showing up after I pinged, so they saw the new post. Weird stuff. I know Technorati’s been flaky lately with the search results, but every time I checked they were doing well with indexing. I guess I’ll wait a bit and see if this ever shows up, and then see how well the tags did.

UPDATE 2: Well, it worked that time. Don’t know what changed, but there it goes. I’ll chalk that up to Technorati weirdness rather than Wordpress weirdness.

What I’m using: Jerome’s Keywords plugin. It does lots of other things, like give a tag cosmos and so on, but for now I’m just using it so I can list some tags for Technorati. One day, I’ll do more with it. One day.

UPDATE 3: Hmm, another test post from another blog with this plugin also failed to show up in Technorati in any form (not in the search results, not in the tags.) That’s not enough data to say “Oh my god, the plugin is breaking things,” especially since lots of people are using it successfully. But it’s enough for me to deactivate it until I poke at it some more and see what’s going on. My guess is still that it’s Technorati acting up, but I’m not so sure any more.
