No More Konica/Minolta, new Sony DSLRs

When I wrote a sort of DSLR camera guide a few months back, I seem to have just skipped over Minolta’s DSLR line. I didn’t even give it a brief mention in passing like I did with Olympus and then explained why I skipped it in favor of Canon or Nikon. No, I just ignored Minolta altogether.

I think somewhere in my mind I knew that Minolta had a DSLR line, but I just didn’t read enough recommendations of it for it to stay at the front of my mind. And thoughts that I keep towards the back of my mind often don’t find their way down to my fingers to show up in articles on here.


But I hope it’s not my fault that Minolta is getting out of the camera business. I know that having three people read an article and see no mention of a company might lead them to not buy that company’s product. I think that’s how many people saw the article. They say that bloggers are all-powerful and rule the world these days, and I do have “blog” in the title of this site, so therefore I must rule the world also. Sorry Minolta, I didn’t mean anything by it. You can blame it on my brain if you want.

The other side of that story is that Sony is getting into the DSLR business using Minolta’s lenses. That’s going to be an interesting uphill battle for them again the established players (basically Canon and Nikon). But then again, it is Sony, and their digital point-and-shoot line is very popular. But then again, it is Sony, and everyone hates Sony for their wacky rootkit exploits.

Hey, if Sony wants to harness the power of blogs to promote their new camera, I’d be happy to play with a review model. You hear that, Sony? The same reckless power that brought down Minolta (namely, me) can be harnessed to catapult your product into the forefront of up to 3 readers’ minds. You can’t put a price on that kind of publicity.
