I rented King Crimson’s Deja Vroom DVD from Blockbuster Online a little while back. So far so good.
Then I tried to return it.
That was a little bit tougher.
I mailed it back to them, and then a few days later they sent it back to me with a note saying that I had returned the wrong disc, and won’t I please send them back the right one. But, sure enough, the disc they sent me back was the very same Deja Vroom disc they sent me.
I think the problem is that the DVD itself is completely blank. It’s a double-sided disc (DVD-10?), with absolutely no writing of any kind on either side. My guess is that they saw that blank disc, and decided it wasn’t the right DVD, rather than try to play it to see what happened. They should have been able to see right away that it wasn’t purple, and so it wasn’t a DVD-R.
I called them up and explained what happened. The customer service representative I talked to recommended that I send the disc back, but without the sleeve. Just put the disc directly into the return envelope, and send it back that way.
Ok. Did that. A few days later, it came right back. They gave me a new blank sleeve for my “wrong” disc, but they still wouldn’t take it back.
After that I just gave up. I clicked the “I returned this movie but it hasn’t cleared my queue” link on the site, since, technically, that’s what happened. So much easier than actually trying to get them to take the DVD back.
