Big Surprise

Posted on Tuesday 23 August 2005

Me, a few days ago, talking about Comcast’s reliability with my Internet connection:

August is on track to be my best month in a while. Does saying stuff like that jinx it, and mean my connection is going to be down for a week after I post this?

I’m really not a superstitious person, but wow. Maybe someone at Comcast is mad at me for posting about how terrible my connectivity has been. About 48 hours after my service came back, it went back down. I don’t know the exact time it went down since I’m out of town, and can’t get to my home computer that’s keeping track of my uptime, of course, since its Internet connection is down.

I have no idea how to get them to fix this. I actually submitted a complaint to the county a few weeks ago during the last big outage, but that didn’t do much. A follow-up call to see if things were better. Since that was during an unprecedented two week stretch of uninterrupted reliability, all I could say was that yes, it was.

At this point I think I need to try calling the billing department and complain that the $3 credit here and the $4 credit there don’t come close to making up for 25% downtime in a month and the endless string of outages, and see what they say. Anyone have other ideas to get them to actually fix the problem for good?
