Comcast Update

Posted on Saturday 20 August 2005

Ok, so my prediction was wrong. My internet connection came back up around 6:40 am today, just about 50 hours after it went down. Every time I make an appointment for them to look at my connection and mention how it keeps going down, they say to let the tech come out anyway even if it’s back up to see what’s going on. Never mind that Comcast always calls to cancel (and just cancels anyway even if I say not to) after it comes back up.

So today since it came up only a few hours before my appointment, I guess they didn’t have a chance to do that. The tech came out, and, well, couldn’t really do much. He said that Comcast’s system upgrades were breaking my upstream connectivity once in a while, and that things should settle down when they were done with the upgrades in my area. That’s probably the most believable explanation I’ve heard so far, even though it doesn’t sound completely right. If it is, they have to have some really incompetent people working on upgrades if they take my connection down for 2 or 3 days whenever they do this upgrade thing.

Anyway, I’m back online now. It’s very neat. Full of Intarwebby goodness. One of these days I’ll post the summary numbers I’ve been keeping track of (number of hours of downtime in a month, stuff like that.) Good times.
