That was interesting. My Internet connection was up for 5 hours early this morning (while I was sleeping, naturally). Thank you, Comcast. And then, of course, down since I’ve been awake.

Me, a few days ago, talking about Comcast’s reliability with my Internet connection:
August is on track to be my best month in a while. Does saying stuff like that jinx it, and mean my connection is going to be down for a week after I post this?

Since my Internet connection was going down so often, and because I’m a complete geek, I wrote a small script to keep track of the outages. It only checks my cable modem’s connectivity, so doesn’t include cases where my connection was fine but Comcast was having other issues that made the Internet unavailable.

Ok, so my prediction was wrong. My internet connection came back up around 6:40 am today, just about 50 hours after it went down. Every time I make an appointment for them to look at my connection and mention how it keeps going down, they say to let the tech come out anyway [...]
Some side effects of being without Internet access that you wouldn’t really think of:
My Audioscrobbler (sorry, last.fm) queue is really piling up. Winamp will probably have around 100 songs to flood their server with when my connection comes back up.
My CPU is just sitting idle, since the Folding@Home client can’t grab any new work [...]
So, I use Comcast’s Internet service. Lots of problems. Well, one big one: it goes down a lot. And a warning: this became a long rambling rant of a post.
